Hello, my name is Pru and thank you for visiting my website.
My background was in education having worked as a Primary School teacher for many years. I have come to counselling after my own very positive experience of the process.
Challenging events in life can throw up all sorts of difficulties leading to BIG emotions that can have an affect on your mood and your quality of life.
Struggling to cope with these issues and "carry on" can feel heavy and isolating. You don't have to do it alone. I will listen and work alongside you to make sense of the obstacles you are facing.
Understandably taking the first steps towards counselling can seem daunting as it can bring on uncomfortable feelings. Often your counselling journey will be a challenging one, but it will be a joint endeavour.

Through my own counselling experience I believe that Counselling can be life changing. It can enable you to understand yourself better, deal with difficult emotions, negotiate difficult past or present experiences and facilitate change in unwanted behaviours.
Counselling offers the space and time away from the demands of life to talk and be heard by someone who is objective and impartial.
I believe that each person and their experience is unique. Therefore I draw from the various therapeutic modalities to tailor your sessions to suit your particular individual needs.
Counselling is about talking and listening, I will not provide you with advice but through reflection and exploration together, I'll support you to find your own solutions and triumph over your difficulties with self-acceptance and compassion.
Perhaps you are feeling stressed, anxious or depressed in your life today. You find yourself persevering, trying to get on with the day to day routine but you find yourself emotionally exhausted and feeling less like your true self.
Perhaps current circumstances or past events in your life have left you feeling overwhelmed, stuck and unable to cope.
I hold the belief that every person has the capacity for change and personal growth. I will provide you with a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences at your own pace.
I am here to support you in prioritising and attending to your Mental well-being. Working together, untangling your thoughts and making sense of your difficulties. The aim of the counselling process is to enable you to understand and accept yourself. to empower you to make changes that will be more productive and rewarding for you.
We can develop coping skills and strategies to help you with a whole range of issues that you might be dealing with.

Everybody is different but I believe you can benefit from counselling if you are experiencing difficulties or worries in your life. The important question to ask yourself is are you ready to take some time for yourself to be challenged by different points of view, experience new ways of thinking in order to make positive changes in your life? It can feel like a brave step to take but one which i will support you with.
For the duration of your therapy you will receive a 50 minute session working with me.
To start with weekly sessions are advised, however, I do understand that certain circumstances mean this might be unattainable and we can discuss that in our initial chat.
The duration of my work with clients varies greatly and may be short, medium or long term, but we agree this together and I will always hold your best interest in mind.
Sometimes it might not be the right time to embark upon your therapy journey. That is okay. You might feel you are not ready and the choice to end will be yours. Through our work together we will review and check in along the way so that I can ensure what you are experiencing is benefiting your on-going needs.
Should you choose to stop I will always suggest we have a final session to tie up our time together. Endings are an important part of the counselling work and have your well being in mind.
After you have made your initial enquiry I will contact you to arrange a time that we can meet for a chat on the phone. This will take about 15 minutes. I will ask you to tell me a little bit about why you are coming to counselling and what it is that you would like to achieve. I will tell you about myself and the way that I work. This is an important part of our process so that I can make sure I am best fit to support you at this time. It is also a great opportunity for you to be able to ask any questions you might have, and most importantly decide if you feel you could work with me!
Counselling will give you a unique space for you to talk, be heard, reflect and explore your thoughts and feelings. Through this it can help you to think and feel differently from the way that you do now and empower you toward new changes that will benefit your emotional well-being.
I offer an initial free of charge, 15 minute telephone meeting. I can then gain a better understanding of what has brought you to counselling and how I can best support your needs. It will give you the opportunity to ask any questions and help decide if i am the right counsellor for you.
